General

Does Luxa Mailbox store my email content in the WordPress database? No. Every message is read directly from your mail server over IMAP each time you open the Mailbox screen — nothing is copied or cached into WordPress’s own database. Only your connection settings (host, port, username, and an encrypted password) are stored.

Is my mail password safe? Your IMAP and SMTP passwords are encrypted before being written to the database. Anyone with raw database access cannot read them back as plain text. As with any password, use a strong one, and consider an app-specific password if your provider offers them (see the Installation & License Setup Guide).

Does Luxa Mailbox send my email through any third-party server? No. Reading happens via a direct IMAP connection to your own mail server; sending happens via a direct SMTP connection to your own mail server. Luxa Mailbox does not route your mail through luxapress.com or any other intermediary — the license-check calls (Pro/add-ons only) are separate and never touch your email content.

What mail providers work with Luxa Mailbox? Anything that offers standard IMAP and SMTP access: Gmail/Google Workspace, Outlook/Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, and the mailbox that comes with virtually any cPanel/DirectAdmin/Plesk hosting account. If your provider supports “connect with a third-party mail client” (the same thing Outlook desktop, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird use), it works with Luxa Mailbox.

Can I use Luxa Mailbox to receive email at my own domain (you@yourdomain.com) without separate email hosting? No — Luxa Mailbox is a mail client, not a mail server. You need an existing mailbox somewhere (your hosting’s built-in email, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc.) with IMAP/SMTP access; Luxa Mailbox connects to it.

Will this slow down my site? The Mailbox screen itself talks to your mail server on demand, only while you’re actively using it — it has no effect on your site’s public-facing pages or their performance.

Free plugin

How many mailboxes can the free plugin manage? One. If you need more, see Luxa Mailbox Pro.

Can more than one WordPress user read/send from the same mailbox? Yes, if they each have the required capability (Administrator role by default). Everyone sees the same single mailbox — the free plugin has no per-user assignment or “who’s handling this” tracking; that’s a Pro feature (see Assign + Status below).

Why do I see “The PHP IMAP extension is missing”? Your server’s PHP installation doesn’t have the imap extension enabled. See the Installation & License Setup Guide’s Troubleshooting section.

Does the free plugin expire, or need a license? No. Luxa Mailbox (free) has no license, no expiration, and no recurring cost — it works for as long as you keep it installed.

Is there a limit on message size or attachment size? Luxa Mailbox itself doesn’t impose one — the practical limit is whatever your mail server and your WordPress hosting’s own upload limits allow (see Settings → Media or ask your host about upload_max_filesize/post_max_size if a large attachment fails).

Luxa Mailbox Pro

Do I need the free plugin to use Pro? Yes — Pro is an add-on to Luxa Mailbox (free), not a standalone replacement. Install and activate the free plugin first, then install Pro on top of it. Never deactivate the free plugin while Pro is active.

How many mailboxes can Pro manage? As many as you like — add each one under Mail Accounts.

Can different team members see different mailboxes? Currently, everyone with access to the Mailbox screen can see and switch between every configured account — Pro doesn’t yet have a per-account, per-user permission system. Assign + Status (see below) lets you track who’s responsible for a given message without restricting who can see it.

What happens to Assign + Status / Internal Notes if I switch accounts? Each account has its own independent set of assignments, statuses, and notes — switching accounts shows that account’s own data, never a mix of several accounts’.

Can I export or bulk-edit assignments/statuses? Not currently — assignment and status are set one message at a time from the reading pane.

Do Canned Responses support formatting (bold, links, images)? Canned responses are saved as plain text and inserted into the compose window as simple paragraphs — no rich formatting, images, or merge fields (e.g. auto-inserting the recipient’s name) yet.

Will “Assign + Status” or “Internal Notes” notify someone when they’re assigned or mentioned? Not currently — there’s no notification email or WordPress admin notice yet. Checking the message list’s assignment badges is currently the way to see what’s assigned to you.

Does upgrading from free to Pro require reconfiguring my mailbox? No — your existing free-plugin mailbox settings carry over automatically as your first account under Mail Accounts once Pro is active.

What happens if I let my Pro license expire? Pro-only screens and features (Mail Accounts beyond your first one, Assign + Status, Internal Notes, Canned Responses, Add-ons, Modules) become unavailable, but your data isn’t deleted — reactivating your license restores access to everything as it was. Your original mailbox continues working through the free plugin’s own single-account Settings screen regardless of license status.

How many sites can I use one Pro license on? Depends on your plan — check your account at luxapress.com for your specific license’s site limit. The License page in wp-admin shows exactly how many sites are currently using your key and lets you deactivate a site you no longer need, freeing up a slot.

Add-ons

What’s the difference between an add-on and a “module”?

Add-onModule
What it isA separate pluginA feature already inside Pro
LicenseIts own, purchased separatelyNone — included with Pro
InstallYes, from the Add-ons screenNo install — it’s already there
Typical useOptional extra capabilityOptional bundled behavior, on/off

Do I need a separate license for each add-on? Yes. Each add-on is licensed and purchased independently — owning Pro does not automatically unlock any add-on, and owning one add-on doesn’t unlock others.

If my Pro license expires, do my add-ons still work? No. Every add-on requires an active Pro license as a prerequisite, regardless of whether the add-on’s own key is still valid. Reactivate your Pro license to restore add-on functionality.

I don’t see any add-ons in the catalog — is something broken? Not necessarily — the Add-ons screen shows whatever’s currently published for your version of Luxa Mailbox Pro. If the catalog is empty, there’s simply nothing published yet; check luxapress.com for current availability.

Can I install an add-on’s plugin ZIP manually instead of through the Add-ons screen? The Add-ons screen (Unlock → Install → Activate) is the supported path and the only one that also registers/validates the add-on’s license key correctly. Manual installation isn’t recommended.

If I uninstall an add-on, do I lose my license key? No — uninstalling removes the add-on’s plugin files only. Its license stays unlocked; reinstalling later (even after deactivating and removing it) won’t ask you to re-enter the key.

Can I move an add-on’s license to a different site, the same way as my Pro license? Yes, the same activation-limit and deactivation mechanism applies — check the specific add-on’s own documentation (or its equivalent of the License page, if it has one) for details, since this can vary slightly by add-on.

Billing & licensing (Pro and add-ons)

Where do I find my license key if I’ve lost the activation email? Log into your account at luxapress.com and check My Licenses — every key you’ve purchased is listed there.

Does my license auto-renew? Check your account at luxapress.com — renewal terms depend on how you purchased (some plans are one-time, others subscription). Your licenses page always shows the current expiration/renewal date.

Can I get a refund? Refund policy and window are handled through your luxapress.com account/support — contact support with your order details.

I bought on the wrong site by mistake / need to transfer my license. Contact support through your luxapress.com account with your license key and the details of what you need changed.
