Requirements

Minimum
WordPress5.8
PHP7.4
ZipArchive PHP extensionRequired only for Zip/Unzip (Pro)

Luxa File Manager works on standard WordPress installs and Multisite networks, and on shared, VPS, or managed hosting alike.

Installing Luxa File Manager (Free)

Option A — From the Plugins screen:

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Search for “Luxa File Manager”.
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.

Option B — Manual upload:

  1. Download the plugin .zip file.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the .zip file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate.

Once active, a new File Manager item appears in your admin menu. No further setup is required — the free plugin works immediately.

Installing Luxa File Manager Pro

Luxa File Manager Pro is an add-on: it requires the free Luxa File Manager plugin to already be installed and active. If it isn’t, Pro will show an admin notice explaining this and won’t do anything until Free is active.

  1. Make sure Luxa File Manager (free) is installed and active first.
  2. Install Luxa File Manager Pro the same way as above (Plugins → Add New, or manual upload).
  3. Activate it.

A new Pro Settings item appears under File Manager in your admin menu.

Getting a license key

License keys are sold at luxapress.com/wordpress-plugins/luxa-file-manager/pro. After purchase, your license key is emailed to you and also available from your account on luxapress.com.

Every license has an activation limit — the number of sites it can be active on at the same time. This is shown on the product page at the time of purchase, and again on the Pro Settings screen once you’ve activated a key. If you need more sites, contact support@luxapress.com about upgrading.

Activating your license

  1. Go to File Manager → Pro Settings.
  2. Paste your license key into the License Key field.
  3. Click Save Settings.

If activation succeeds, the page shows how many of your activation slots are in use, your license expiry (or “Lifetime” if it doesn’t expire), and your Support & Updates status. All Pro features unlock immediately — no page reload or server restart needed.

Common activation errors

MessageWhat it means
This license key is not validDouble-check the key was copied correctly, with no extra spaces before or after it.
This license is no longer activeThe key was disabled, refunded, or cancelled. Contact support@luxapress.com if you believe this is a mistake.
This license has expiredRenew your license at luxapress.com.
This license has reached its activation limitYou’ve used all the activation slots your license allows. The error message lists which sites are currently using it — deactivate it on one you no longer need (see below), or contact support@luxapress.com about upgrading.

Tip: if you get an activation-limit error but you’re sure you’ve only ever activated one site, it’s usually because the site’s URL changed at some point (moving from a staging URL to your live domain, or from http:// to https://) — each counted as a separate activation. Deactivate the old one from the list shown in the error.

Moving a license to a different site

Licenses are tied to a site, not a specific plan or purchase order, so you’re free to move a license around as long as you’re not over your activation limit at any given moment.

  1. On the site you’re moving away from: go to File Manager → Pro Settings and click Deactivate on this domain. This immediately frees up that activation slot.
  2. On the new site: activate the same key as described above.

If you can’t access the old site anymore (for example, it was taken offline before you deactivated), contact support@luxapress.com to have that slot freed manually.

Understanding Support & Updates vs. license expiry

These are two separate things:

  • License expiry — whether the license key itself still works at all. Many licenses are sold without an expiry date.
  • Support & Updates — how long you’re entitled to plugin updates and support, shown separately on the Pro Settings page.

If your Support & Updates period expires, the plugin keeps working exactly as before — nothing is disabled. You simply won’t receive new updates or support responses until you renew. The Pro Settings page shows a Renew link once this happens.

Automatic updates

With an active license, Luxa File Manager Pro checks for new versions automatically and shows an “Update available” notice on your Plugins screen, exactly like a plugin from WordPress.org — click Update Now the same way you would for any other plugin.

If your license or Support & Updates period has lapsed, update checks are skipped and no update will be offered until you renew — the currently installed version keeps working, it just won’t update itself further.

What happens if the license server is briefly unreachable

Luxa File Manager Pro checks in with Faddat Store roughly once every 24 hours in the background to confirm your license is still valid, and caches the result locally so every other page load is instant and doesn’t depend on network access at all.

If that background check can’t reach the server — a temporary outage, a firewall rule, a DNS hiccup — your Pro features stay active. Only a clear, explicit rejection from the server (an invalid, inactive, or expired key) will turn Pro features off. A network problem never will.

Deactivating or uninstalling

  • Deactivating Pro (Plugins screen) leaves your settings and license status stored, ready to pick back up if you reactivate later. It does not free your activation slot — use Deactivate on this domain in Pro Settings first if you want to do that.
  • Deleting Pro (after deactivating it) removes the plugin’s files but does not automatically free your activation slot either — again, deactivate the license first.
  • Deactivating or deleting the free plugin while Pro is still active will disable File Manager entirely, since Pro depends on it.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see the File Manager menu item at all. Your user account doesn’t have the upload_files capability (or, if Pro’s role restrictions are configured, your role isn’t on the allowed list). Contact your site administrator.

I can see the menu but get “Access denied” when I open it. This was a bug in versions before 2.1.1 where some roles could see the menu but not use it — update to the latest version. If you’re already up to date and still seeing this with a custom role, check that role’s upload_files capability, or Pro’s Access Roles setting.

Pro features are greyed out / clicking them shows an upgrade prompt, even though I activated a key. Open Pro Settings and confirm the license shows as active. If it shows inactive, try re-entering your key. If the problem persists, contact support@luxapress.com.

“Update available” never appears even though I know a new version exists. Confirm your license is still active and your Support & Updates period hasn’t expired on the Pro Settings page — updates are only offered while both are true.
